Spheroid degeneration of conjunctiva. This is not cancer but can be confused with cancer of the eye.

Spheroid degeneration of conjunctiva

This 59 y/o healthy man rushed in with a diagnosis of cancer of the eye.

He had an inflamed red area in the temporal limbal conjunctiva of the left eye.

He had a strong history of UV light exposure.

Have a look at both images. The left eye looks more red and globular. This is a spheroidal type of degeneration of the conjunctiva.

There is NO DYSPLASIA nor NEOPLASIA.

It can be very difficult to distinguish from cancer, and patients are very relieved to know they don’t have cancer.

I have given him some steroid cream for discomfort and will review in 3 months.

He doesn’t like the discomfort, and wants it removed, which I would do with the PERFECT technique.
